Each year, I have the privilege of photographing UCSD graduates as they celebrate one of the most meaningful milestones of their academic journey. Every session is unique, yet they all share the same feeling—confidence, pride, and the excitement of stepping into what’s next.
Graduation sessions are thoughtfully planned around timing, light, and each graduate’s preferences. Depending on the time of day, on-campus portraits—such as those in front of the iconic Geisel Library—are available by request or as part of select packages. When included, the campus provides a powerful and symbolic backdrop, reflecting years of dedication, growth, and achievement.
Many graduates choose to include family members in their sessions. Parents, grandparents, siblings, and loved ones often join in to celebrate together, adding an extra layer of meaning to the experience. These moments go beyond portraits—they document shared pride, support, and the people who helped make the journey possible.

Some graduation sessions continue beyond campus, often moving toward the coast for a completely different atmosphere. Locations such as La Jolla Shores offer a relaxed, open setting where the ocean becomes a natural symbol of new beginnings. The shift from campus to beach creates a beautiful balance—structured and academic, then effortless and free.
These transitions allow for a mix of polished portraits and more candid moments. Laughter, movement, and genuine connection naturally unfold, creating images that feel both elevated and personal. Whether celebrating solo or with family, each session is designed to feel unhurried and meaningful.
